Consumer spending in the U.S. rose a seasonally adjusted 0.4% in January, the Commerce Department said Monday. Personal income advanced 0.3%. Economists surveyed had forecast a 0.2% gain in spending and a 0.2% rise in income. The personal savings rate was flat at 4.3%. Also, inflation as gauged by the core PCE price index edged up 0.1% in January.
