The benchmark S&P 500 closed at a fresh record Thursday, as investors welcomed dovish remarks from Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen before the Senate Banking Committee.
Yellen’s comments, in which she reaffirmed the central bank’s accommodative policy, pushed the index above the key technical level of 1,850 to the new high, after three straight unsuccessful attempts this week.
The S&P 500 finished the day 9.13 points, or 0.5% higher at 1,854.29 and turned positive for the year.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended the session 74.30 points, or 0.5%, higher at 16,272.71.
The Nasdaq Composite closed at the best level since April 2000, adding 26.87 points, or 0.6%, to 4,318.93.
