U.S. stockson Tuesday finished a choppy trading session higher, helped by stronger-than-expected consumer confidence data. Housing data earlier came in mostly in line with expectations. The main indexes closed with modest gains after two days of losses. The S&P 500 ended the day 8.19 points, or 0.4%, higher at 1,865.63. The Nasdaq Composite finished the day 7.88 points, or 0.2%, higher at 4,234.27. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 91.19 points, or 0.6%, to 16,367.88
